A new leader has been appointed by Al-Qaeda. He is to take the place of Osama Bin Laden. According to Al-Jazeera television and Cable News Network, he is named as Saif al - Adel, an Egyptian former special forces officer who is a veteran militant. According to FBI, al-Adel also goes by the names Muhammad Ibrahim makkawi and Ibrahim Al-Madani. Reuters reports that al-Adel was in Afghanistan during the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States and subsequently fled to Iran.
