Nigerians Should Avoid A Repeat Of June 12 - Dr.Lai Oso

As Nigeria is on the verge of conducting arguably the most anticipated election in her history, Media scholar and Dean, Lagos state university’s school of communications, Prof. Lai Oso has added his voice to the ongoing political debate in the country, reminding media practitioners of their critical roles in the electoral process.

He said this while fielding questions from newsmen during a visit to
his former school, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. According to the communication scholar, “The media should be objective and let the people decide.”

He however advised Nigerians to avoid a repeat of what played out
during the June 12, 1993 elections. In his words “Nigerians would decide what their response would be. I pray we don’t have a crisis. I pray the political elites would not engineer a crisis. “What we experienced after June12 should teach us a lesson that this country cannot continue to move from one crisis to another, it would not help our development.”
