BVN Fraudulent Messages: Central Bank warns customers

The Central Bank of Nigeria has released a press statement warning bank customers who have not obtained their Bank Verification Number (BVN) not to fall victim of scams. 


The apex bank released the statement signed by its director of corporate communications, Ibrahim Mu'azu says some unscrupulous elements are sending messages or emails to bank customers in order to get their personal details. An example of such messages is:

"Dear customer, due to the new BVN policy, your account has been deactivated and to reactivate, call... "

These messages are intended to lure the customers into releasing their sensitive information. Customers are hereby advised to disregard such messages and should visit their banks for any issue relating to their bank personal details.

The BVN registration however ended on October 31st, 2015 according to the Central Bank which says all account holders who failed to comply with the policy will have their accounts deactivated.
