NEMA's Simulation Exercise Mistaken for Plane Crash in Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency's (NEMA) simulation exercise was mistaken for a real plane crash today in Lagos by residents.

Residents were thrown into confusion after some people reported they saw a plane crashed.

NEMA later debunked the rumor of the reported plane crash, says it is a simulation exercise to test preparedness of the emergency agencies in case of a real plane crash. "National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) organised a successful air crash simulation exercise at Oworonsoki lagoon in Lagos.

"The exercise was to test run the level of preparedness and response abilities of responding agencies in case of actual distress alert/incident in a difficult terrain.

"The exercise involved deployment of four helicopters from Nigerian Navy, Air force along with response boats from Navy, NIMASA and NIWA.
This included employing fire fighting preparedness of Navy fire boat.

"Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDC, DSS, FRSC, Immigration, Customs, NAMA and other agencies at the state level which included LASEMA, State Fire service, LASTMA, etc. took part in the search and rescue preparedness exercise".
