My Son's Death, a relief - says 42 Year Old Mother

Yusuf Azeez was a 23-year old man killed by an accidental discharge while trying to wrestle a gun from a Vigilante Group commander at Oke Aro area of Ogun state on Tuesday around 8pm. The vigilante commander who is currently in custody of the Police in the state said he did not kill the young man; the gun exploded while Azeez was trying to take the gun from him.

According to a report by PUNCH Newspaper, the deceased came home on that day to her mother, 42-year old Toyin Akintayo, and requested his dinner. It was reported that the mother had explained to him that she does not have much but still gave him a sum of N200 to buy food. He however rejected that and vowed to kill her. He reportedly broke a bottle and threatened to kill her.

In her statement, she said she sneaked out to call the vigilante group members beside her house to come to her rescue. On getting there, the deceased reportedly attacked two of the members and told the commanger, Quadri Adesina that he does not fear his gun. He tried to wrestle him and take the gun from him but the gun accidentally discharged a bullet into his thigh.

"I enrolled him in three different secondary schools, he dropped out. I took him to five different furniture experts to learn the work, he absconded. He went into barbing; I gave him N85,000 to rent a shop and furnished it for him. He didn't go to the shop until the rent expired.

"His death is a relief to me and the family. He was  too troublesome. There was a time he beat up an OOodua People's Congress member while we were living in Idimu (Lagus). I spent a lot of money on the man's treatment". These are some of the statements by the deceased mother.
