OIL WORKERS: NUPENG and PENGASSAN begin strike today!

Strike action - www.thisseidu.com

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff  Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) will commence a nationwide strike today.

The unions said they are protesting the inability of the Federal Government to carryout turnaround maintenance in our refineries and reduce pump price of oil. They also said the protest is also to make sure the government evolve new strategies to combat pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft .

Well, they have points to go on strike. But in my own view, after watching the national news on Sunday evening, I came to the conclusion that the unions' main objective is neither of the two reasons above. They clearly stated that they were going on strike to protest the alleged sack of the Zonal Secretary of the Senior Staff Association (Porthacourt zone), Mrs. Elo Ogbonda by Total Exploration and Production.

I really do not know where this nation is heading to when the interests of few people is the drive of a nation's destiny. My point; if the woman is reinstated, the strike will be called off and you will be left with the questions "HAS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CARRIED OUT THE MAINTENANCE? HAS THE GOVERNMENT AGREED REDUCE THE PUMP PRICE OF OIL"
