June 12 was only celebrated in the southwestern part of Nigeria until the recent move by the president and commander-in-chief, Muhammadu Buhari who signed the bill into law to make June 12 democracy day in Nigeria instead of the usual May 29. This is a move which received accolades and appreciation from different stakeholders.
The declaration of June 12 as democracy is a great honor to the struggle of the great pholanthropist, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola a.k.a. MKO Abiola.
The democracy day event attended by President Muhammadu Buhari and other dignitaries was held at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
