THE REAL PROBLEMS OF NIGERIA | Seidu Kazeem's Blog

If you ask an average Nigerian what the problems facing Nigeria today are, he or she would mention insecurity as a major problem we are battling with. But a colleague of mine, Kevin, who is also a civil engineer looks through our problems from another angle.

His view cut across his personal encounters with people from different cultures and different religious faiths.

Read below:

"Personally, I don't think Nigeria has so much of a problem. The problems we have stated on this platform is actually not our primary problem. Insecurity, religious bigotry, kidnapping, poverty, poor educational system, poor infrastructure etc.. These are the most common things an average Nigerian will state as our problem. That's okay. But  for me I don't see these things as our major problems because I know they can easily be solved. There is available knowledge, means and resources to solve these popularly mentioned problems".

"Personally, I feel the major problem we have in this country is that we have many "VERY BAD PEOPLE". From top to bottom. Out of these many bad people springs our very terrible government and leaders. That's our major problem".

"Is solving our educational system rocket science? No! Is improving our poor infrastructures rocket science? No! So also the other problems we may list. But the major problem is that many Nigerians are very bad and destructive human beings. That's just it. Though there are exceptions".

"I can say without mincing words that there are also good people too. But the majority bad clouds the minority good. I have met many good gentlemen and ladies especially in this cve 13 set and I guess that's why we still bond till now. To mention one or two cases. I remember when I was doing my postgraduate studies I had to stay with a friend (Seidu Kazeem) for a couple of months before securing my own accomodation. He is Yoruba, I am Igbo (I guess I'm the only Igbo in that Civil set😁). He is Muslim, I am a Catholic. But he gave me a shelter and convenience before I was able to secure my own place. Did he have so much? No! And I can mention many more too Abdulrazaq, Fisayo etc... And I know on a personal level we all must have had one or two good experiences with each other regardless our background, tribe or religion. That is the good I'm talking about. It goes beyond tribe, religion or ideology".

"We are in this mess because majority of the people are more quick and ready to destroy, kill, milk and enslave their fellow country man for no sensible reason. Another colleague here made a comment on our constitution. The truth is a country's constitution is as good as the persons who made it up. A constitution doesn't make up itself it is the human persons (lawmakers) who are tasked to do so that formulates a constitution".

"If we have many holes, imbalance and injustice in our constitution it is only a reflection of the inner motives of the formulators. It's as simple as that. If we truly value justice, equity, unity and human life our constitution and the implementation of it will reflect so. A picture of a diamond bra was posted here today of a popular past Nigerian minister. That is just one bra (and I'm certain she doesn't only have one pair of bra in her wardrobe). Is that money from her salary or sweat? How much is even her breast by the way? Abi is the breast producing crude oil or golden milk for her to use such an expensive item called bra? Is that vanity? No! That is sheer wickedness! That amount when pumped into educational system can do a whole lot. This is just one person that was caught and exposed. Imagine the many parading themselves as elders and leaders who do worse".

"If we sincerely want to solve electricity problem permanently in Nigeria we can do so in less than a year. If we really want to solve any of our problems we can do all of that in no time".

"A colleague here recommended "leave the country to a sane country". That's fine and good. But I don't think you may ever tour the world than our so called leaders. But what do they pick from there to implement back home? Nothing! If you are good you are good. If you are bad you are bad. No fancy word around that. We have lots of bad and destructive people who make existence a nightmare for their fellow country men. You go to another country and they accommodate you, give you basic means of livelihood and the rest. Is it because they are more wealthy than us? No! It's simple. They are better human beings than us. They have respect for human existence and promote justice and sane society and environment. But we terrorize each other, pay millions to bandits as allowance for their despicable acts and glorify thieves who pose as leaders and govt".

"Everyone cannot be a leader but everyone can start to make a difference in their respective stations. The problem is not just one man. It's a collective thing".

"Until we start to prioritize justice and respect for human lives we won't get anywhere".

"I so much respect the Japanese educational system. From early stage they promote core values for human development in their pupils & students. What do we have here? Our schools and institutions are disoriented. There is a current trend which is already a ticking time bomb for the youths: drugs! Youths from the age of 25years down (boys & girls) are already advanced in drugs of all sort...."

"The best we can do is to keep sensitizing each other, putting our best in making here better".

We all need to evaluate ourselves and choose the path of goodness for a better today and greater tomorrow.
