Pregnant Woman Dies in Akwa Ibom Following Alleged Hospital Negligence

According to a post on Facebook by Ashore Godwin Clement, a relative of the deceased pregnant lady who died at the General Hospital, Etinan after she was allegedly induced for hours instead of an emergency procedure to rescue the woman and her unborn baby. 

The incident which happened on 16th August, 2025, has now generated calls to the government and commissioner of health on the state, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel. 

The Facebook post reads

"On the 16th of August 2025 my sister Rehoboth Clement died out of negligence.
His Excellency Governor Pastor Umo Eno PhD, the Doctor that was suppose to be on call at General hospital Etinan refused to show up for a pregnant woman with Pre-eclampsia,The Baby died inside her, instead of them to conduct an emergency Cs, they induced her for hours, the baby died inside her and she bled to death, there was no blood on stand by, no drugs, the hospital pharmacy was close, before they could go outside to buy drugs the girl was weak, the midwife did all the delivery and stitching.

Even when she has cervical bleeding and the nurse kept calling the Doctor, but he refused to come, he showed up when she had bled to death.

General hospital Etinan killed my last sister.

The government should do something about it

A renowned Lawyer who is also an indigent of Akwa Ibom also called on the State's Commissioner of Health to look into the case. 

In a Facebook post, Barr. Inibehe Effiong said: 

"I am calling on the Government of Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner for Health Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John and the Hospital Management Board to institute a formal inquiry into this case.

We cannot continue to live in a society where human life is disregarded and medical care is not provided urgently and professionally.

Those found culpable in the tragedy death of the pregnant woman and her unborn child should be punished severely.

I also ask that the bereaved family should be given adequate compensation."

I hope the the Governor of Akwa Ibom will ensure justice and adequate compensation is given. 

May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
